I've recently been down when it comes to my health and fitness routine. It's not that I don't want to be healthy, I've just been tired of waking up early, and having to be on immediately.

Following a strict long distance triathlon schedule isn't easy because you really don't get a break. And lately I've just wanted to workout on my own schedule or stay in bed with my dog.

Of course this weekend was a great weekend for my health. I wasn't expecting to have a good weekend of training. In fact I was prepared to fight through it all. But the exact opposite happened.

I swam really well on Friday completing 1.14 miles. Rode really well on Saturday completing 50.43 miles. Then on Sunday, I ran really well completing 9 miles of hilly miles.

This was exactly what I needed to gain back some confidence which I was lacking. With only 13 days until IRONMAN Maine 70.3, I feel like I might even set a personal record on a moderately difficult course.

The lesson I learned this weekend, is don't ever give up. You never know how strong your body will be until you try, and this goes for all levels of fitness and health.

I know more than most that this health challenge is even more difficult with a chronic illness, but with small turtle steps, a positive mindset, and lots of short term goals, so much can still be done. The IRONMAN slogan is ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE, and that is more true than you know. The first step is creating a plan and trying.
